Shirley Curry, or Grandma Shirley to her millions of YouTube fans, did not expect that she will become an overnight YouTube sensation just for playing Skyrim. However, the gaming community was much more surprised because they didn't expect an 80-year old grandmother playing Skyrim.

For most of us, grandmothers are those gentle creatures who give us a hug and spoil us when our parents don't want to concede. We even forge a special bond with them and perhaps, that is the same bond Grandma Shirley's fans have when they watch her videos and listen to her comely voice.

The twice-widowed grandmother of nine and mother of four, suddenly found her inbox flooded with thousands of emails after her first Skyrim walkthrough was shared by another user on Reddit. People who saw her videos call her a breath of fresh air and indeed she is. She even calls her fans her grandkids. One fan even wished she was his grandma and asked to be adopted.

"I think the reason my recording took off the way it did is because of my age and that people hadn't seen that on YouTube. I have my own picture on there and I talk about my age because I wanted my viewers to know me and I wanted to know them. I'm not going to hide behind some cartoonish-looking avatar and never mention the fact that I'm an older woman," she said in reference to why people loved her videos.

After a year of her YouTube debut, Shirley Curry has also played No Man's Sky, Ark: Survival Evolve, and Fallout 4. Aside from her Skyrim walkthroughs, Shirley has a 'grab bag' episode that features any games that interests her. Compared to others, her videos are long and boring but her magic transforms it into something like a friendly stroll in the park enjoying the views.
