‘Haikyuu!!’ Season 3 Episode 9 Recap: Tsukishima Returns To Wreak Havoc

The second to the last episode of “Haikyuu!!” Season 3 has just aired. The episodes feature the heart racing last set between Karasuno High and Shiwatorizawa Academy. It also delved on the character development of Karasuno’s talented yet indifferent player, Tsukishima Kei.

“Haikyuu!!” Season 3 Episode 9, titled “The Volleyball Idiots” started off with Tsukishima, escorted by the team’s managers, being treated for his injury in the infirmary. It flashed back to when Karasuno was in a training camp with other powerhouse volleyball teams. It was then that Tsukishima started to truly realize he had the knack for volleyball and has grown to like the sport.

After Kageyama Tobio making a timely return with Shiratorizawa leading 15-14 in the final set, Tsukishima makes a grand unexpected entrance. Shiratorizawa is a bit shaken already especially with Kageyama back on the court after being benched out for exhaustion. It will be harder for Shiratorizawa to go on offense when the Karasuno star players are all in place once again.

Despite still being in pain because of his hand injury, Tsukishima remains calm and precise as he leads the team blocking off Shiratorizawa’s attacks. After receiving three spikes from a long rally, Karasuno finally makes a break for it as they lead the set 15-16, gaining the match point. Karasuno has pushed Shiratorizawa as hard as they can and they were about the give all they’ve got to make this game theirs.

Aside from Tsukishima, team captain Sawamura Daichi and libero Nishinoya Yu have also kept the set for Karasuno in play with their flawless receives and saves. The set trails on until 18-18, where both teams strive to get the match point. With players of both teams already reaching their limits, the battle relies now on each team’s spirits.

Even with injuries and sore legs, Karasuno is not giving up without a hard fight. With them gaining the latest match point, the episode leaves viewers with a cliffhanger of Hinata jumping for a quick spike from the backline position. Will he score the winning point for Karasuno? The next and final episode for “Haikyuu!!” Season 3 will air this weekend.
