'Justice League 2' Update: Delayed Release Date Due To Ben Affleck’s Next 'The Batman Movie'

First stop: what is The Last Photograph? According to THR, the film - which once had Christian Bale and Sean Penn attached to a star, though it's unclear if that's still the reason - will revolve around "a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the only one to survive an attack on a group of Americans. When a special ops soldier in search of a family member shows up, the two team up, with the correspondent hoping to score the story of his life". An interesting deviation for Snyder, in other words."

Arguments On Who Will Be The First; Ben Affleck Needs "The Batman" First In Line

Second stop: the general in accordance on this news seems to be that Warner Bros.' faith in Snyder has taken a hit, either any of the response to Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice or whatever he's done with Justice League, and that now they're putting some distance between him and the production team ... and, indeed, that this may be the first step towards Snyder not making Justice League 2 at all.

As far as plot goes, that's a good one, but who knows? Maybe they're just really, really affirmed to focus their efforts on getting another solo Batman film into cinemas. Maybe Snyder wants a break from the DCU too. Maybe they're right and this is the beginning of that break-up scheme after they got something on you. We certainly don't know the details yet, but of course this kind of inside-job stuff is fun to ponder on.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

After wrapping Justice League, Snyder is not tackling Justice League 2, as was the initial plan, but rather is focusing his attention on his long-in-development thriller The Last Photograph.

Snyder is still intent on directing Justice League 2, but that movie has been pushed back to make room for Ben Affleck's Batman stand-alone movie.

Anyway, the game plan now is to have Justice League first in theaters this coming November, followed by, sometime thereafter by The Batman, and then Justice League 2 sometime after that. James Wan's Aquaman, it's worth noting, is still on track for a July 27, 2018 release date. But, maybe Aquaman will suffice itself to have an early entry for the prequels of the other two.
