2017 Toyota RAV4 Review: What Makes It Worth Buying?

The Toyota RAV4 is one of the few SUVs that have been around for more than 20 years. Given how long it has been in the industry, it must have something special to have been able to last this long. Here's the 2017 Toyota RAV4 and why it's an SUV worth buying.

Under The Hood

The 2017 Toyota RAV4 has two options for its powertrain. According to report from The Car Connection, the base 2017 RAV4 is equipped with a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine capable of 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet or torque. This is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that sends the power through a standard front wheel drive (FWD) and optional all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrain. The other engine has a hybrid configuration that delivers 194 horsepower to its AWD system through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2017 Toyota RAV4 has different ratings for its hybrid and non-hybrid trims. The non-hybrid trims boast an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rating of 24 and 31 miles per gallon in the city and on the highway respectively for its FWD configuration while its AWD has 22 and 29 miles per gallon driving in the city and on the highway as reported by CNET. The hybrid trim on the other hand, has better EPA fuel efficiency rating with 34 miles per gallon gas consumption in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway.

Safety Features

This aspect is where the 2017 Toyota RAV4 shines the most. The 2017 Toyota RAV4 managed to earn the Top Safety Pick+, the highest honor from the recent Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). It was able to achieve the award with its forward collision warning, automatic pre-collision braking, radar-based adaptive cruise control, pedestrian pre-collision system, lane departure and automatic high-beams.

A Good Buy

According to report, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 has a starting price of $24,910. The price goes higher as the buyer moves to upper trim levels. The top Platinum with AWD configuration has a price tag of $36,150. Given the 2017 Toyota RAV4's decent power, impressive fuel efficiency, safety features and reasonable price, it is definitely an SUV worth buying.
