Square Enix CEO Talks About What To Expect In 2017

Square Enix saw success when they released the highly anticipated (and very well received) Final Fantasy XV in 2016 and the company's CEO, Yosuke Matsuda, is already looking forward to the future. He has released an open letter to recap on the previous year and let fans know what to look forward to in the next.

The letter was posted on the official Square Enix site, where Matsuda has credited 2016 as "A year of technological innovation." He credits this to the sale of smartphones worldwide and how their technological advancement can also be seen as a potential venue for future content. Matsuda also talks about the rising sales of consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the slowly growing trend of VR and AR technology. Fans can bet this may be Matsuda's way of hinting at future games from Square Enix that could come exclusive to the smartphone and VR devices.

As for the future, Matsuda has confirmed that the company will continue to adapt to any new technology and innovation that comes its way. He has mentioned that 2017 also marks the 30th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise and that the company is planning on something special just like what they did with Dragon Quest when it hit its 30-year anniversary.

As of now, there has been news that Square Enix is working on a remake of one of the more popular FF titles, Final Fantasy VII and players will be able to experience an updated version of the classic game that introduced classic characters like Cloud Strife and Sephiroth. Fans are also looking forward to the release of Kingdom Hearts III that has no release date yet but is expected to come out sometime in 2017.

Square Enix continues to be one of the most prominent brands in gaming, and fans are excited to know what the company will have in store for them in the coming year.
