Expect Indie Game Mars Underground To Be Released In September 2017

Indie game enthusiasts should keep their eye out for a game called Mars Underground next year, as the developer has just reached its Kickstarter goal. Come September 2017, gamers can get their hands on the "Groundhog Day"-inspired game.

According to Dual Shockers, Mars Underground is a game that focuses on time loops and will have players controlling a teenage student named Mars as he undergoes all the woes that come with high school. The players will be taken into the fictional town of Phobos and the interesting catch is, with the time loop element put in, there are several arcs that the players can follow as well as multiple endings to one story.

Mars Underground has a very retro design and is said to be inspired by classic games from the 16-bit SNES RPG-genre and LucasArts adventure games. Aside from the time loop element from "Groundhog Day," the game is also said to have been inspired by the movie "Donnie Darko." With that in mind, even with the colorful 16-bit appearance, players should expect some pretty dark undertones in the game.

Gameplay-wise, the player will have a lot of exploring to do in the game and as time passes by, they will be able to open more areas and locations as well as earn more quests. This is very close to the early Legend of Zelda formula, as well as the tried and true pattern of Pokemon. The game is also said to have a completely unique soundtrack that is both dynamic and original.

Eager players who participate in the kickstarter will be getting a Steam code which will come along with their DRM-free download. Non-backers will still be able to buy Mars Underground off of Steam at a regular price.

What's interesting is that Mars Underground is an indie game being developed solely by Matt Sanderson. With the kickstarter paying off, interested gamers can expect it to come out in September 2017. For more information, players can check out the official site.
