Borderlands 3 Update: Plans For 2017 Teased By Gearbox CEO

Randy Pitchford from Gearbox Software has recently announced the studio's campaigns for this year. Beyond the standard congratulatory and grateful comments for its fans, the CEO revealed that a newly formed Canadian studio is currently working on a new game, though the said game was not yet specified and will be announced this 2017. Currently, fans are wondering if the information regarding Borderlands 3 will finally arrive.

According to the report from The BitBag, the announcement was made through Pitchford's official Twitter account. As seen on the tweet, Gearbox Software founded the Gearbox Quebec studio responsible for the development of a new game.

Apparently, the game remains a mystery to all of their fans since the studio has not yet revealed any insight on what kind of game they are currently working on. In addition, the release of this said game is also unknown at the moment. Many fans are suspecting that this game is actually the most awaited Borderlands 3.

Based on the report, Gearbox Software released Battleborn last year. It is an online shooter that eventually did not perform the way it was expected. In the end, it lost to its rivals such as Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch and Hi-Rez Studios free-to-play Paladins when it comes to audience participation and active users.

Currently, Battleborn's playerbase remains at the bottom despite having a great potential as a competitive game. Due to the disappointments caused by Battleborn's performance last year, it seems like Gearbox Software will direct its focus on developing Borderlands 3 very soon. Previously, the studio has positively identified Borderlands 3 as part of their next game in development. However, fans perhaps did not expect the twist when Gearbox announced Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition at The Game Awards 2016.

So far, the entries for Borderlands have aged since they were released. Borderlands 2 was launched last 2012 while The Pre-Sequel title was released the following year. However, these games were bundled into ports for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection last 2015. Currently, the fanbase for Borderlands 2 has an on-going event called The Hunt 2017 where they must look for certain rare guns and show it on Twitch.
