Snapdragon 800-powered LG D801 Crushes Benchmark Competition

A mysterious LG device has popped up in GLBenchmark under the title D801, complete with a Snapdraggon 800 CPU.

We've seen the Snapdragon 800 already with the ZTE Grand Memo, which was unveiled at Mobile World Congress. We could also see it in the Xiaomi MI-3, which is rumored to arrive in China "sometime next summer." Other than that, it will apparently be included in this LG device, going with an unusual model number unlike any used by the company before.

Aside from the CPU/GPU, there are a few other features indicated. These include Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, a 1794 x 1080, or full HD, display and a processor running at 1.7 GHz. The Snapdragon 800's performance is reportedly 75 percent better than that of the Snapdragon S4 Pro. It's a beast of a processor that dominates over most in other devices. While the display isn't the 1080p Full HD yet, it could just be because the LG-D801 is still in the development stage. If this isn't a completely new flagship device, then it could be the Optimus G2, which is scheduled to launch this fall.

There's good reason to believe the device is real, based on its MSM8974 model number and Adreno 330 GPU. Though it probably won't be released any time soon, it could completely dominate its competition. The GLBenchmark results are the best ever, beating devices that include the iPad 4, HTC One and Xiaomi MI 2.

The build name for the device is "g2_tmo_us," which is the type of name that usually accompanies devices aimed at U.S. T-Mobile stores. Accordingly, it's definitely possible that we could be seeing the Optimus G2 headed to T-Mobile.

The big question to be answered is whether the device is in fact the Optimus G2 or some other device.
