Invisible Combat Vehicles May Now Be Possible; Russian Scientists Claim

Metamaterial is a substance concocted to have a property that is not found in nature. It can manipulate electro-magnetic waves by blocking, absorbing, enhancing, or bending them to make things unseen. Meta-materials can be widely used in the development of new types of weapons and the design of super-computers where conventional electrical signals will make way for photonic ones.

Russia As Well Know For Innovative Warfare Might Hold The Key For Mass Destruction

The NUST MISIS team worked closely with classmates from the University of Crete, Greece. In 2016 Russia and Greece signed a memo on cooperation in quantum technology research and joint funding of this work, including the study of meta-materials.

"The investigational part of our research was the creation of a one-of-a-kind metamaterial consisting of a small flat grid of the so-called meta-molecules cut out from a solid piece of normal steel," the project's director Alexei Basharin was mentioned as saying by the NUST MISIS press service.

Basharin said that thanks to the unusual shape and configuration of these cells the scientists be able to to obtain metamaterial with undeniably unique properties. This metamaterial can be used to make supersensitive devices to detect explosives and chemical weapons.

"An addition of a nonlinear semiconductor will turn the metamaterial into an adjustable screen for stealth technologies, which make fighting automobiles less visible in radio, ultra violet and other bands," the NUST MISIS press service said in a report. The newly obtained meta-material can also become a vital element of the latest types of lasers and aid the source for quantum computers. "The Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) and other space-related organizations have already shown curiosity in the new material," the NUST MISIS statement said.

Thus, the enemy, even fortified with the most advanced radar and infrared sensors, could mistake an imminent Armata for a small car or not see it at all. Russia is not the only one challenging this type of secret technology turning tanks invisible on the battleground. It's been ten years since the British first tested technology which made their Challenger-2 main battle tank vehicle seems to completely disappear.
