Twinkies Recalled With Possible Salmonella Threat

Holiday White Peppermint Hostess Twinkies recalled because the coating contains milk powder ingredients produced by the Valley Milk Products LLC, which may be contaminated with salmonella. Twinkies usually have a long shelf life, but it is not advisable to hoard the limited edition Holiday White Peppermint Hostess Twinkies.

Bloomer Chocolate Co., is the producer of the said coating of the limited edition Twinkies. Salmonella was found in the manufacturing facility of the company. This includes heat nonfat dry milk powder and 50-pound bags of Valley Milk sweet cream buttermilk powder.

Consumers are advised to dispose of the recalled items or ask for refund in stores. However, original Twinkies are not being recalled. Palmer Candy Co., also provided a recall for a couple of chocolate candy, including candy party bowls, almond and peppermint bark and covered pretzels.

According to CNN, Marty Palmer, president and chief executive officer of Palmer Candy said that they are truly sorry for any trouble this recall had caused to the retail consumers and customers. He added that they are continuously committed to the highest standard and safety food quality. And that the recall is a serious matter and that he appreciate the cooperation of consumers.

He also promised that they will look for immediate action to resolve the issue. The recall is just one of the many announced by the Food and Drug Administration in relation with an broaden recall of milk powder ingredients produced by Valley Milk Products. According to the CT Post News, Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

There are no reported cases of illness caused by the Holiday White Peppermint Hostess Twinkies recalled items. There is also none of the candy coating tested positive for salmonella. But, Holiday White Peppermint Hostess Twinkies recalled because Palmer Candy can not risk and will prevent any more possibilities.
