Pokemon GO Eggs Influenced By PokeStops Debate: Players Divided If It’s Simply RNG

Pokemon GO Eggs are biome-specific according to one theory but others simply dismiss it as a matter of RNG. One player recently decided to test the two theories.

Recent Test Conducted

Reddit user JHofNYC conducted a Pokemon GO Egg experiment to find out if certain PokeStops can determine the species of Pokemon hatched. The user suspects that PokeStops holds certain specific kinds of Pokemon which also includes those hatched from eggs.

Steps Taken

First, the user cleans out the Egg inventory in preparation for the experiment. He then chooses a specific Pokestop to collect nine eggs before hatching them and noted the results. All in all around 58 eggs were collected from that single Pokestop. The experiment and data collection took about a day, according to JHofNYC.

Results of Experiment

So far, the user got 13 2km eggs, 39 5km eggs and six 10km eggs. Interestingly, the 10km ones yielded two Lapras and a Snorlax. At first glance, there is little conclusion to draw from this experiment. The user did mention the name and general location of the Pokestop. The kinds and types of Pokemon the user got though are varied which seems to justify the RNG theory.

Pokemon Hatched

Let's examine the kind of Pokemon the user got such as the Lapras and Snorlax. The former is a Water/Ice type while the latter is a normal Pokemon. The 3km egg also yielded 2 Charmander and a Weedle which are classified as Fire types and Bug/Poison types respectively. The eggs he hatched yield 34 different Pokemon. This seems to prove that the kind of Pokemon you get most likely depends on chance rather than on the PokeStop itself.

Meanwhile, the user also said that it was his first time to get Lapras from that particular PokeStop. Getting not one but two in the same day seems to be more than coincidence. Pokemon GO developer Niantic on the other hand made a recent migration. It can also be conclude that the PokeStop is now a biome for Lapras. It's quite clear that further experiments are needed to settle the matter once and for all.
