Xbox One Gives PS4 The Upper Hand For Cancelling Scalebound

The recent Microsoft cancellation of Scalebound may have consequences for the Xbox One. It seems Sony's PS4 will be left unchallenged in one particular market.

Microsoft Needed Scalebound

The Windows Company did not take the Scalebound cancellation lightly. Microsoft needed the game in order to compete with PS4 in Japanese gaming market. Its Sony's home turf but Scalebound would have made it big in Japan. Microsoft also partnered with the Japanese-based Platinum Games for the project. Fans of the cancelled game were clearly disappointed by the news and they made their views known through various social forums such as Twitter.

There are other Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive games coming up this year. Industry observers believed though that it can't compete with PS4 exclusive titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, according to Forbes.

Xbox One 2017 Exclusive Lists

Xbox One head Philip Spencer admitted that the Scalebound cancellation was "difficult" but claims its all for the best. Other Xbox One titles for 2017 included Crackdown 3, Halo Wars 2, State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves.

Halo Wars 2 is still probably the Microsoft's biggest title. Many pundits though are unsure it could make up for the loss of Scalebound. Meanwhile State of Decay 2 shares a lot in common with the recently released Dead Rising 4.

Microsoft is also expected to launch Project Scorpio this year which is certain to excite gamers around the world. The upcoming platform is expected to include Crackdown 3. This game is also highly anticipated and there rumors that Microsoft will use it to highlight Scorpio's 4K capabilities.
