Google To Release Android Wear 2.0 Next Month

Google will release in early February its highly anticipated update to the Android Wear operating system.

Google's Android Wear 2.0 Release

According to Digital Trends, Google's Android Wear 2.0 operating system will arrive early next month. The improved features and visual aesthetics are expected to reinvigorate the company's smartwatch platform. Google will have to face increased competition in the wearable market this year, as a number of fashion brands and tech companies have already announced Android Wear watches scheduled to release in 2017.

A screenshot of an email from the Google Play Developer team posted by a Google+ user suggests that the tech giant is asking developers to publish their apps for Android Wear 2.0 in order for them to be ready to coincide with the scheduled launch. The time frame for the update's release is also announced in the leaked email.

According to Android Headlines, Google plans to release Android Wear 2.0 in "early February". The next version of Android Wear will include direct support for installing Google Play apps on wearable such as smartwatches. This is of crucial importance for developers and as a result it does support the belief that the email is likely stating a correct time-frame.

Exact Date Of Release Still Unknown

The email does not actually specific when in February the release of Android Wear 2.0 will take place. However, this is a much clearer time-frame than any speculations previously made. It is also expected that the launch of Android Wear update will come along with the launch of two new Google-affiliated smartwatches.

Android Wear 2.0 has made the news on multiple occasions over the course of the last few months, most often due to a significant delay in making available the next-generation of the platform. Previously, it has been expected that Android Wear 2.0 be released in late 2016. However, Google delayed the launch for still unexplained reasons.
