Apple iPhone 8 May Include Facial and Gesture Recognition

According to Cowen on Wednesday, the most anticipated Apple iPhone 8 will be unveiled soon this year. It released a note that includes several new details about Apple's upcoming device. One of the Apple's iPgone 8 feature appears to include "some form of facial/gesture recognition supported by a new laser sensor and an infrared sensor mounted near the front-facing camera and, as expected, should also finally include wireless charging," Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri wrote.

According to Business Insider, a new kind of extent sensor has not yet been seriously rumored to be in the upcoming Apple's iPhone 8, but it makes sense. Apple bought Primesense, an infrared sensor company back in the year 2013. Also, a new kind of sensor would be crucial for Apple to add augmented reality features to upcoming versions of the iPhone.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has publicly mentioned things about Apple's interest in augmented reality technology several times in the past few years. The company is also said to be integrating new technology into the iPhone's camera and it could have one of the first things it should be able to recognize.

Capabilities like gesture control and facial recognition are also some of the first steps towards a rich augmented reality experience, something Apple is rumored to be working on. According to MacRumors, the facial recognition capabilities could be powered by a laser sensor and an infrared sensor located near the front-facing camera. With the said facial recognition, Apple could replace the Touch ID fingerprint sensor that is now existing with Apple iPhone devices.

It could also augment its functionality with a two-factor verification system for sensitive information. The rumored facial recognition could also power other features on the iPhone, like augmented reality camera functions. While the gesture recognition could allow users to control their devices with simple gestures for doing things like turning the volume up or down.

Apple iPhone Devices For 2017

Arcuri also reemphasizes several rumors that are previously heard from other reports. He believes that Apple will launch a total of 3 iPhones this year, one is the standard size of 4.7 inches, the other one is the 5.5-inch model and a new higher-end 5.8-inch iPhone with an OLED display.

According to Arcuri, the rumored Apple iPhone with size 5.8-inch iPhone will feature a wraparound display and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor that could be located under the glass of the device. This iPhone will have a technology Apple has been pursuing for some time. Aside from that, a wireless charging capability is much-rumored and highly desired features, are also expected.

Apple's upcoming iPhone this year is also expected to have an edge-to-edge screen, especially on the iPhone 8. Reports are also claiming that the Apple iPhone 8 will be made of stainless steel or plastic screens and a 'new sensing technologies' that could move Touch ID to the side of the iPhone 8.
