Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Will Be The Farewell Gift For The Wii U; The End Of The Wii U Console?

One of the highly anticipated titles for the upcoming Switch is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Latest Nintendo announcement revealed that the game will also come out for the Nintendo Wii U which came as a surprise for many since the Japanese corporation explicitly stated a year ago that they will no longer support Wii U in the future. Today, it appears that Nintendo is indeed going to bid farewell for the Wii U platform and that Breath of the Wild will be its final parting gift.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the last Nintendo Game for Wii U

In an interview with Polygon, Reggie Fils-Amie confirmed that Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be the last Nintendo game for Wii U. During the interview, he explicitly stated that: "From a first-party standpoint, there's no new development coming after the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We really are at the end of life for Wii U."

This statement was to clarify the concurrent questions from some Nintendo fans regarding how the company views the Switch and if the new hybrid console is indeed going to replace the Wii U console. Based on this brief yet concise reply, it's safe to say that everyone is going to say goodbye to the line of Wii franchise.

When asked about the future of the device, Fils-Amie confirmed that the Wii U will still be sold in all retail outlets and that Nintendo wouldn't remove the Nintendo Online Services for the console. Moreover, they're not closing down any future projects for third-party developers.

However, it's undeniably clear that Nintendo is going all out for the Switch and that the Wii U will soon be abandoned entirely especially as it appears that they're no longer be supporting the latter aside from their exclusive services. Despite the existing support for the Wii U platform, it's just a matter of time before everyone will bid farewell to the line of Wii consoles.
