Tom Cruise wants to go to space.
According to reports, the actor is interested in a launch on a private spaceship. Cruise made the comment during the Moscow premiere of his upcoming science fiction film Oblivion.
"Who wouldn't want to do something like that?" Cruise said. "I'm going to let a couple of other people test it out first, but it would be great. I was always hoping when I was a kid that we would be travelling to different planets by now."
There are currently some private companies, including Virgin Galactic, that are developing spaceships that can carry passengers on quick visits into space. For $200,000, customers can catch a quick glimpse of Earth and experience weightlessness.
In Oblivion, Tom Cruise plays a drone repairman working on Earth after it has been ravaged by an alien invasion. When asked if he thought other life existed in the universe, Cruise responded that he was open to the idea.
"I don't think you can actually count it out," he said, as reported by the Sun. "It might be a little arrogant to think we were the only ones in all the galaxies throughout the universe — but I've never met one!"
Celebrities other than Tom Cruise planning to make an extra-terrestrial trip include Ashton Kutcher, who became Virgin Galactic's 500th customer in March 2012 after making a deposit for a ticket. According to reports, Kate Winslet was given a free ticket by Virgin Galactic's founder Sir Richard Branson as a favor after Winslet saved his mother from a fire.
