Nokia Lumia 928 'A Dirty, Dirty Rumor,' When's The Release Date?

With the successful launch of the Lumia 920 last year, Nokia showed that its phones, along with Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system, might actually have a chance to prove naysayers wrong and take a bite out of the dominant mobile twosome of Apple and Android. Now, people are wondering what's next. Specifically, when will the Lumia 928 come out, and what features will it have?

The problem is that the Lumia 928 doesn't officially exist. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, when asked what kind of phone the Lumia 928 is, even said he had no idea, because they never announced it.

On Thursday evening, we got to try out the Lumia 920 at Pepcom's Digital Focus event in New York City, and we asked a Nokia representative what's happening with the Lumia 928 everyone's talking about.

"That's a dirty, dirty rumor," she said, smiling, and added that, considering the quality of the Lumia 920, why would you want another phone? Another representative simply added that Nokia doesn't comment on rumors.

The Lumia 920 is a pretty solid smartphone, but the smartphone industry moves so fast that it's inevitable people will start looking ahead. Nokia's put on a good show denying the phone's existence, but multiple signs indicate that the Lumia 928 is real. A leaked image of the 928 surfaced on April 6, while Lumia 928 accessories even started popping up on Amazon three days later.

The Lumia 928 is rumored to feature an aluminum body, a 4.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 768, and a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. The camera would clock in at 8.7-megapixels, and the phone would also sport 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space.

There's even a rumored launch date of May 15, so hold onto your hats. We'll let you know all the official details as soon as Nokia is ready to spill the beans and get rid of all the rumors.
