HTC One On AT&T Bootloader Unlocked, Rooted

It's still about a week before the HTC One launches on AT&T, and the bootloader has now been unlocked, with the device being successfully rooted.

The HTC One can be unlocked through the HTC Dev site and the root method and installation of ClockWorkMod recovery are the same as with the international version.

Some consumers have been able to pick up their HTC One early from AT&T, allowing some time to tinker with the device. Some concerns arose over whether AT&T would block the device from the standard HTC bootloader unlocking tool; however it appears that is not the case.

Before going through with this procedure, there are a few important things to keep in mind. For one, as part of the bootloader unlock process, the procedure will wipe everything off of your phone. Additionally, the Ringtone Trimmer, Flashlight, Sound Recorder and Calculator apps will be deleted. The fact that these apps are absent will mean that the HTC One will not pass a file integrity check. Therefore, OTA updates will no longer be possible.

However, this probably won't stop many eager AT&T HTC One users from diving into the procedure.

The HTC One is HTC's flagship smartphone for 2013. Featuring a sharp aluminum body and 1.7 GHz quad-core processor, it's certainly something to look forward to. The HTC One will also sport one of the best displays on any smartphone available, with a 4.7-inch SuperLCD3 Full HD 1080p display with 468 ppi. Other features include the Sense 5 user interface and HTC TV, an app that turns the device into a universal remote control. HTC Boom Sound allows for superior audio quality.

The HTC One goes on sale in the U.S. on April 19.
