‘Arrow’ Finally Gets New Black Canary; Will Goth Felicity Jones Return?

“Arrow” Season 5 has finally revealed its new Black Canary in its latest episode, titled “Second Chances”. After going through a lot of candidates, Oliver Queen finally decides on someone who will follow the footsteps of Laurel as Black Canary. Meanwhile, Felicity Jones meets up with a person from her past and there might be a possibility that the goth Felicity Jones might just make a return.

The latest episode of “Arrow” Season 5 has revealed a new female character that will finally fill in the spot that Laurel has left empty after she was murdered. Oliver Queen, Felicity Jones, and the rest of Green Arrow team went on deep research for finding the most likely candidates. It was hard convincing Oliver Queen with the candidates being presented to him because he kept on comparing them to the late Laurel of Earth-1.

Oliver Queen went on about that it was not just about the skills but to find the next Black Canary had more to do with feeling. After telling the team to think out of the box, he was presented with an unnamed female vigilante who was infamous on the internet for her urban legends skills. Apart from being able to kick ass, this woman apparently is a meta-human that has the scream that the Black Canary also possessed.

Interested, Oliver Queen sets on finding out her identity and as it turns out she was a casualty from the S.T.A.R. Labs incident that took place three years ago in Central City. The woman who has been identified as Tina Boland used to be a cop for Central City Police Department. During that time, she was in deep cover trying to infiltrate a drug dealing circle but was eventually found out and then tortured. She turned into a vigilante after she watched her partner die in front of her.

Tina Boland sets on a path of vengeance-seeking justice for her partner’s death as she follows the tracks of the drug dealers she was able to escape from three years ago to Hub City. Oliver Queen tries to recruit her but Tina Boland refuses to do so. Not until she realized she needed their help after finding out that the drug dealers she was after also acquired supernatural powers during the S.T.A.R. Labs incident.

Tina Boland as the Black Canary is being received quite well as her backstory as well her supernatural skills make her the closest one to the original comic description. Meanwhile, in the midst of finding the new Black Canary, Felicity takes on a different mission to save her fellow team member, John Diggle. Diggle is in prison and Felicity is resorting to using her old hacking skills to save him.

Felicity scours the dark web as she reveals that she was Ghost Fox Goddess, her hacker handle back in college. She explains that she was a goth hacker activist, which she referred to as hacktivist, donning dark hair and clothes back in college. To save Diggle from being incarcerated any further, Felicity meets up with a fellow hacker activist, who turned out to be someone she inspired back in college and offers her the secrets of the internet.

“Arrow” Season 5 will continue with its story delving on the angle concerning Talia. The Green Arrow team will be heading to Russia in the next episode. “Arrow” Season 5 episode 12 titled “Bravta” will air on Feb. 8 on The CW.
