Nintendo Switch Not Shipping With Web Browser, Video Streaming Apps

The Nintendo Switch will not ship with a web browser or any video streaming apps at launch.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed that the Switch will not launch with an internet browser. It will also not have support for video streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video. This does not mean, however, that the Switch will never have these features.

According to Kimishima, the company focused all its efforts on "making the Nintendo Switch system an amazing dedicated video game platform". He also stressed that the hybrid home and portable console will not support the said features "at least at launch" as The Verge reported. That said, a web browser and video-stream support are "being considered for a future update".

Express noted that the lack of the said features is not because Nintendo has no plans to have them featured on the Switch but because it wanted to do everything right on the day of the launch. Despite hints of bringing web browsing to the Switch in the future, some fans are a bit concerned with the browsers' absence among other issues. One Reddit user that Express quoted said that Switch owners cannot play games in games online while in public because of the lack of an internet browser. The Redditor stressed that "public WiFi requires the user to sign into a portal" and that without the browser, users cannot open the web portal and sign in. Another post on Reddit indicated that Switch users cannot enjoy the games when in hotels or coffee shops also because of the absence of an internet browser.

There is also a talk that the Switch is made in a way that support for other accessories and features are possible. In fact, it was also mentioned that support for Nintendo Wii and Wii U controllers can also be considered later on.
