'Fortified', A Game Based On The 1950s Is Giving Players Nostalgia

In these times, developers are looking towards the future as a premise for the stories in their games. As a result, players and fans are always treated to futuristic spectacles and that keeps them hooked. Although sometimes, these futuristic ideas are all becoming boring and predictable because developers and publishers are influenced by each other. This theory can be proven by, when a player goes through a game, and is able to predict what would happen to a character or what happens entirely in the setting of the game.

However, when a person sees a game that doesn't boast futuristic content, it may come as refreshing to them. A game which does pay homage to the past is titled "Fortified", a game that was developed by Clapfoot which is based on the 1950s. When a player thinks of the 1950s, they think of childhood cartoons, aliens and a whole lot more. It is in this time of reminiscing that brings in the feeling of similarity, attachment and nostalgia. Fortified for the most part will give more nostalgia, as players get to experience the general ideas and thoughts of the men and women in the 1950s.

What Is Fortified

According to Destructoid, the story of the game is that robotic Martians landed in Earth and are destroying everything in their path. In the game, the player has four characters to choose from, a rocket scientist, a spaceman, a secret agent, or a captain of an unknown team to stop the menacing Martians.

How The Game Is Played

Fortified is like an upscaled version of any tower defense game but even better. In an article by Indie Game Magazine, players must select a character to play with to fend off the approaching aliens in increasing difficulty as the level advances. Before the incoming horde of aliens arrive, players need to strategically place tesla traps, armed soldiers, or rocket launchers in such a way that they gain the advantage. Once the game begins, the selected character of the player can now roam around the map to ambush aliens, or to defend a location but they also need to be aware as the aliens can shoot back and damage the player.

Although the idea of a tower defence game is already old, Fortified brings the genre to a whole new level because the graphics of the game is unbelievably good and the features in the game are quite different from any typical tower defence games out there.

All in all, this game might not be the best in graphics nor does it have the greatest plot line, but compared to the games that are being released nowadays, this surely is something that can freshen the pallets of bored gamers. Fortified is available on Steam for the PC and Xbox One.
