Best Movies On Netflix: Week Of 4/28/2013

Hopefully by now you've regained your bearings following the Great Netflix Purge of 2013, in which hundreds upon hundreds of classic movies were removed from the Netflix library, along with 15 seasons of South Park.

It was traumatic for us too, but life goes on, and so Top of the Queue returns for another weekly installment — bringing you the best movies on Netflix instant, like a guide dog taking you through the murky B-movie wastelands so that you don't have to brave them alone.

Best Movies on Netflix: Igby Goes Down (2002)

Igby Goes Down is a dark comedy set in New York City about a young and sardonic teenager rebelling against his old-money upbringing. The film features Kieran Culkin as 17-year-old Igby, as he drops out of prep school after prep school before winding up in Manhattan's bohemian underworld.

Best Movies on Netflix: Into the Wild (2007)

Based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild stars Emile Hirsch as Christopher McCandless, who after graduating from Emory University with high honors travelled to Alaska to live in the wilderness.

Into the Wild is directed by Sean Penn and also starts Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, Catherine Keener, Hal Holbrook and Vince Vaughn.

Best Movies on Netflix: Arena (2011)

Sometimes we like to include really bad movies in the weekly Netflix roundup. Mainly for drinking games. A couple weeks back, it was Night at the Roxbury. This week, we have a little direct-to-DVD gem that goes by the name Arena and stars none other than Samuel L. Jackson.

Drinking Game Rule #1: Take a shot every time the movie does something racist, (i.e. "Japanese" characters speaking Chinese).

Best Movies on Netflix: Beowulf (2007)

Beowulf was one of the first motion capture films of its kind when it was released in 2007 and it still looks remarkably unique. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, it employs a similar aesthetic to the one captured in the director's previous film, The Polar Express.

Beowulf features an ensemble cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Crispin Glover, John Malkovich and Angelina Jolie.
