Amazon Smartphones With 3D Display And Audio Streaming Device In The Works

A new report claims that Amazon is currently developing some new hardware products that the company plans to introduce in the next few months: Two smartphones and an audio streaming device.

It's been rumored that after Amazon began seeing success with its Android-based Kindle Fire tablets, the company was thinking about following up with a Kindle smartphone. Amazon seemed to confirm the smartphone rumors when it hired Windows Phone boss, Charlie Kindel to head up a new project that was described as "a new area for Amazon." That project is believed to be Amazon's first smartphone.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Amazon is developing two new smartphones and an audio streaming device. The first smartphone is said to be a high-end smartphone that uses a display that allows 3D images to be seen without glasses. Sources described the 3D display of the smartphone as:

"Using retina-tracking technology, images on the smartphone would seem to float above the screen like a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles. Users may be able to navigate through content using just their eyes."

This type of retina-tracking navigation is already found on the Samsung Galaxy S4 but the Amazon smartphone would reportedly also have the ability to display 3D. Details of what the second smartphone is expected to feature were not made available.

Sources also told the Wall Street Journal that Amazon is working on an audio streaming device that would allow users to stream music from Amazon's MP3 store and any Amazon-purchased content. There is no word on when we might see these new devices, but Amazon usually likes to debut new products just in time for the holidays.
