NEC LaVie Windows 8 Laptop Boasts Intel 4th Gen Chip

NEC announced the full specs of its upcoming Windows 8 laptop featuring Intel's 4th Generation Core processor. This announcement comes ahead of time since the new processor codenamed "Haswell" isn't due to be released by Intel until June at Computex.

The new Windows 8 laptop from NEC, the LaVie L is already being talked about in Japan and has much to offer against similar portable PCs. The LaVie will have a 15.6-inch IPS touch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

"It is equipped with a Super Shine View LED-EX2 IPS LCD that is equipped with a touch panel on all models, with a wide viewing angle with high brightness. In addition, the top model LL850/MSB, high-definition video is reproduced in full HD resolution," NEC said in a press release.

The LaVie L will also feature plenty of storage space with its built-in 1TB hard drive and a 32GB SSD cache. Releasing this summer, the higher-end version of the LaVie L is priced at 200,000 yen in Japan, which is just under $2,000.

One of the first laptops to feature Intel's Haswell processor, running multiple processes should be seamless with its 8GB of RAM. Improved graphics and battery life can be expected from laptops that feature Haswell. Compared to Intel's 3rd Generation "Ivy Bridge" chip, Haswell's graphics boasts to deliver twice the 3D performance.

As CNET reported, Haswell processors will debut in quad-core variants, targeted at high-end laptops. There will also be ultra-power efficient Haswell chips for PC manufacturers that may want to consider making ultrathin designed laptops that offer optimum performance.
