PlayStation 4 Console Teased By Sony Ahead Of Xbox 720 Reveal (Video)

Microsoft is preparing to officially show the world the Xbox 720 in one day, meaning it's the perfect time for Sony to steal as much of the spotlight as possible.

That's a pretty tall order, and short of announcing a release date and price, nearly impossible, but Sony will gladly settle for taking your mind off Microsoft even for a few minutes.

On Monday, the gaming giant revealed a new PS4 trailer (watch the video below) that teased the actual console itself. You may remember that back in February, Sony revealed the PS4 controller, specs, and features while never showing off the console itself. That led many to express disappointment with Sony, which basically said at the time that it needed to save some things for the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.

And that's exactly what the new trailer teases as well. The video slowly zooms in on a blurry, black square that would appear to be the PS4. The PlayStation logo flashes onto the screen, as do diagonal lines and what look to be edges of the console. At the end of the video, Sony reveals when to expect the console reveal: June 10, at 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT).

Of course, that happens to line up perfectly with Sony's E3 press conference, scheduled for exactly the same time.

So what can we expect at E3? As much as people want to see the PS4 console, it's unlikely to really be that noteworthy from a design standpoint. The most exciting announcements will be the games. Since the PS4 is scheduled for a holiday launch, you can bet that Sony will try to gin up some excitement over the launch titles. Seeing what's happened with the Nintendo Wii U, a strong launch line-up will be absolutely necessary.

Knowing that, Sony has already hyped up the PS4 launch as being the best one the PlayStation brand has ever seen. Launch line-ups are rarely that spectacular, but Sony will need to be right about that if it wants the system to stand out against its Microsoft rival.
