BlackBerry Q10 Gets Software Update On Rogers, Bell And TELUS

BlackBerry announced the traditional QWERTY keyboard handset, the BlackBerry Q10, along with the company's flagship smartphone, the BlackBerry Z10, in January this year. However, it's taken a while for the BlackBerry Q10 to reach Canadian shelves (in May this year) and now the handset is reported to get a software update on various Canadian carriers.

Some customers who purchased the BlackBerry 10-powered BlackBerry Q10 may have received the 10.1.0.1483 version of the operating system when they first turned the device on. But according to a CrackBerry report, Rogers, Bell and TELUS users are now reporting an update to 10.1.0.1720 version of the operating system.

The CrackBerry report says "Although the OS has been floating around in various forms for the past couple of weeks now, it looks to have finally gone official across the board in Canada for the BlackBerry Q10."

The report says that even if the software version is the same you should still install the update as the contents of the operating system will be different.

Canadian carriers RogersBell and TELUS are offering the latest BlackBerry Q10 starting at $199 on a three-year contract. Fido is selling the handset for $350 on a two-year contract. You can also buy the handset outright for $650 from Fido and Rogers and for $700 from TELUS.

The BlackBerry Q10 may attract customers looking out for a traditional QWERTY style handset. However, the BlackBerry Q10 has a premium price tag which may fend away some customers. Interestingly, the BlackBerry Q10 has a higher price tag than the company's flagship smartphone, the BlackBerry Z10.

If you own the BlackBerry Q10 on Rogers, Bell or TELUS have you received the latest software update on your device?
