Tekken 7 Drops Popular Animal Character After Outcry From Animal Activists

The Tekken 7 producer has recently made an announcement claiming that the game will not include one popular animal fighter due to animal activists. Meanwhile, he also discussed the possibility of a Nintendo Switch port.

Tekken 7 Under Fire By Animal Activists

According to PVP Live, Roger Jr. has been dropped from the game due to complaints from several animal activists. Executive producer Katsuhiro Harada explained that there was a video of a kangaroo head locking a man's dog. To save his pet, the man punched the kangaroo in the face and it sparked a whole slew of controversy on the internet.

He claimed that while some people might not even play Tekken, they would inevitably discover a game where someone can punch kangaroos. He believes that people would complain about this so he has ultimately decided to exclude the iconic character. For those unaware, Roger Jr. has been a staple character in the series since 1996.

Strangely enough, it is worth noting that the bear, Kuma, is still in the game. One reason might be because bears are "stronger than human beings" but not many humans can actually take down a kangaroo as well. It is worth noting that the Tekken franchise is not the only game that has received flak for animals as even titles like 1, 2 Switch have been attacked by animal rights organization PETA.

Executive Producer's Thoughts On Nintendo Switch Port

That aside, Harada has also opened about the possibility of a Switch port. During a recent interview, he shared his thoughts stating that the company has a strict policy about sharing which titles they are making for the hybrid console. That said, they are too busy trying to perfect the game on their current consoles to actually look into Nintendo's system, as per GameSpot. He even claimed that they could not secure themselves a copy as it has always been sold out.

With that said, fans will have to continue waiting for further news regarding a Nintendo Switch port. Until then, they can purchase a copy of Tekken 7 for the PC, PS and Xbox One on June 2.
