Microsoft Surface RT For Just $399 At Staples

If you've been waiting to get your hands on the Windows 8-powered Surface RT tablet from Microsoft, now's a good time to purchase the device, as Staples is offering a $100 discount on the 32GB version of the $499 tablet.

The entry-level Surface RT is available for $399 across all Staples stores in the U.S., even though the company is yet to officially announce the same.

According to a WPCentral report, the 32GB version of the Surface RT has been marked down from its original price of $499 and is now available for $399. The folks at WPCentral visited Staples stores to check the price of the Surface RT after it had been reduced to $399 online on the company's website. However, the online Staples store continues to reflect the $499 price for the Surfacet RT listing, but the retail locations have the discounted $399 deal on offer.

Per the report, the Staples sale will likely last till early June, but is restricted to in-store purchases alone. However, the Surface RT will not come bundled with the black Surface Touch Cover in this deal. Microsoft rarely discounts its devices and, therefore, users will welcome this deal from Staples.

Apart from the $100 reduction, prospective buyers can also sign-up for the Staples Rewards Program and avail the 10 percent refund on purchase of any Surface tablet or accessory (via a coupon).

With Staples shaving off $100 on the Surface RT, speculation is rife that the discount could be because the retailer is looking to get rid of the existing stock. Why? Because Microsoft is allegedly gearing up to launch the second-gen Surface RT at its BUILD 2013 developer conference in June.

However, whether Staples is clearing out older inventory in preparation for a new line-up of Surface tablets is circumspect since only the 32GB model of the Surface RT has received a price cut.

To avail the deal for the 10.6-inch Surface RT, check out your nearest Staples store.
