Surface Laptop vs Surface Book: Comparison Of Two Microsoft Devices

Surface Laptop, the newest device from Microsoft, is completely embracing the idea of a traditional notebook. The firm doesn't need any magic for the Surface Laptop to stand out because it is really great on its own. Unlike the Surface's Type Cover and kickstand or the Surface Book's detachable display, Surface Laptop comes just its metal skin and a smooth cover.

Surface Laptop vs Surface Book: Design

The Surface Laptop is ultra thin and super portable. It is designed for students, and Microsoft is making a big deal of how smooth this new device is. It's lighter than a MacBook or MacBook Air with 1.25kg weight and it has been designed to look as neat as possible. Screws or joints visible are hidden and no visible speaker grilles on the outside as Microsoft has integrated the actual speakers below its keyboard.

On the other hand, Surface Book has a much more conspicuous hinge because it is one of the most recognizable features of the device. The weight of the Surface Book is balanced, thanks to the hybrid's gray magnesium build features a hinge designed. The Surface Book is slimmer than the newly unveiled device, at 7.7mm thick correlated to the 10mm-14mm thickness of the laptop.

According to Trusted Reviews, the Surface Laptop comes in different color choices: Platinum, Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, or Graphite Gold. It has fabric covering the keyboard, which is said to be imported from Italy. Unlike the Surface Book, the screen of the Surface Laptop doesn't detach from the other parts.

Surface Laptop vs Surface Book: Specs

Microsoft Surface Laptop has a 3:2 aspect ratio and supports the existing Surface Pens. It will come with a choice of Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and up to 512 GB of storage. Microsoft claimed that the battery of the Surface Laptop can last for 14.5 hours of battery life. As reported by ZDNet, the firm also said that the battery of the laptop won't be depleted even it is on sleep mode. However, the Surface Laptop will not offer USB-C, which is a deal breaker for some.

Microsoft claimed that its hybrid Surface Book has a 12-hour battery life when used as a laptop and three-hour projected life when used as a tablet. With Windows 10 S is the operating system of the new device, which should start up and log in quicker than the Surface Book with the standard Windows 10 OS. The laptop screen is a 13.5-inch PixelSense LCD touchscreen display while the book is slightly smaller with 13.3-inch screen and a higher 3,000 x 2,000 resolution.

Both Microsoft device boast on its own classifications. Surface Laptop is taking on the Google Chromebook and to its Chrome OS with the Windows 10 S. And as time goes by, we might see the Microsoft Book 2 which is rumored to also have the Windows 10 S.
