Volkswagen Recalls Almost 300,000 Cars Due To Potentially Hazardous Faulty Fuel Pump
Volkswagen is in deep trouble once more after it was forced to recall almost 300,000 cars in the United States. The latest recall follows the one from 2016 in which more than 280,000 Volkswagen cars had to be dealt with accordingly due to faulty fuel pumps. This time, the troubled car manufacturer is recalling Audis and Porsches.
According to The Drive, Volkswagen is recalling an estimated 292,000 cars including 240,500 Audis and around 51,500 Porsches, also due to potentially hazardous fuel pump issues. The vehicles involved in the new recall are Audi Q5 made from July 2012 to March 2017 as well as Q7 manufactured from May 2012 to July 2015. Porsche Macan S and Macan Turbo cars made between 2015 and 2017 along with the 2017 Macan are also involved. Porsche GTS models from 2017 were also fitted with the defective fuel pumps and had to be recalled.
Once a recalled vehicle is taken back to dealers, it will undergo repairs in which a film will be applied to the flanges. The said film will prevent fuel from spilling out of the pumps. Those that already exhibit cracking will be replaced completely.
Reports say that last year, Volkswagen recalled a total of 281,505 cars in the U.S. Filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicated that the cars involved suffer from three different problems all revolving the fuel pump. According to the filing, the compromised pumps can potentially allow fuel to leak which may be hazardous if left unchecked. The VW models recalled last year included the 2015-2016 Golf, the Golf SportWagen, and the GTI.
This is not the first time that Volkswagen has been involved in controversy. Aside from the 2016 recall, the car company also faces scrutiny for its misdeeds in the past including the so-called emissions scandal and its purportedly dirty tricks of forcing VW car owners to sign documents that waived their legal rights. For now, the controversial Volkswagen car company must deal with almost 300,000 recalled cars.
