The DC superhero television series, “Supergirl” starring Melissa Benoist concluded its second season this week. The finale of the said action series apparently teased a new villain for the upcoming installment.
In January 2017, the CW announced that “Supergirl” has been renewed for a new and third season. The announcement was revealed even when the show was still ongoing. The latest episode, which was titled “Nevertheless, She Persisted”, was heralded as an excellent episode and a fitting finale for the second season. There were several hints pointing to possible threats that could appear in future installments but nothing prepared fans for the final cliffhanger.
The show ended great but it seems like things will not be as smooth as Kara thought. The show left off with flashbacks of the destruction of Kyrpton, revealing that an unknown faction has sent down another infant towards earth in order to reign. The infant’s mission is enough to speculate that a familiar foe will be wreaking havoc in National City soon. Fans speculated that this new villain that will be appearing in “Super Girl” Season 3 is Reign.
In the DC universe, Reign is a Worldkiller that was created by a team of Kryptonian scientists. While Supergirl and Superman were struggling to find refuge on earth, Reign and her fellow Worldkillers followed the two Zor-Els to earth and become enemies after Reign attempts to conquer the world. Just like Supergirl, Reign possesses superhuman abilities because of her alien physiology but she also wields a sword.
Reign has appeared in several issues of the DC Comics and is widely known as one of the primary villains of the Superman family. Her character made her debut appearance in the “Supergirl” comics issue that was published in March 2012. In this issue, Reign and Kara bump into each other after the latter tries to search space for Krypton. However, this might not be the case in “Supergirl” Season 3 as the finale hinted that the destined encounter will happen on earth and at the most unexpected time.
