iFixit does the things that others can't even think of doing and that is to tear expensive devices apart. This time, Apple's new MacBook Pro and iMac have fallen victim to iFixit's expert tinkerers. And from the look of things, the new MacBook Pro is virtually irreparable as expected. What's intriguing is that the 2017 iMac is a tad more repairable

According to 9to5Mac, the 2017 MacBook Pro is similar to its predecessor when it comes to repairability which simply means it's almost impossible to repair on your own. The only difference from the 2016 MacBook Pro is the new CPU. Everything else inside the machine is practically the same as before.

Additionally, the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is even more difficult to deal with. The Touch Bar cannot be removed safely just like it was with the 2016 version. The MacBook Pro earned a 1 out 10 repairability score from iFixit.

It's quite well known in the industry that Apple prefers its products not to be touched by tinkerers and third-party repairers. The Tech Giant, in fact, is against the "Right to Repair" Electronics Bill. This is likely why its Airpods are beyond repair once broken. The Apple Airpods received a zero on iFixit's Repairability Test.

 In a surprising turn of events, iFixit discovered that the 2017 iMac is actually repairable to some extent. Ifixit did a teardown of the new Apple desktop and, as MacRumors reported, the 4K 21.5-inch iMac got a score of three in the Repairability Test.

The teardown showed that the processor and RAM were removable. In fact, they were not soldered onto the logic board unlike what Apple did with previous iMacs. The last time Apple released an iMac with expandable memory was in 2013. In 2012, Apple launched the last iMac with a modular processor.

Ifixit believes it is possible Apple used a modular CPU this time because the Kaby Lake processors for desktops don't have any mountable chips. The 2017 iMac still received a low score, however, due to the degree of difficulty in removing the other parts.
