2018 Holden Commodore V8 Supercar Is Buick Regal's Most Gorgeous Race Car

Holden has officially taken the wraps off the 2018 Holden Commodore V8 Supercar, unveiling computer-generated images of its next-gen racer for the Australian Supercars Championship. In the 2018 season, Holden would still continue to use its current V8 engine, which has been a major success for Holden's team.

According to a source, Holden revealed the first concept pictures of its 2018 "Supercars Series" entrant, and it shares a face with the new Buick Regal sedan. Holden has officially confirmed its plan along with the release of the first official renders of the new race car, produced by Peter Hughes, Manager of GM Design Australia Exterior Design. Along with their factory racing team, Triple Eight Race Engineering, Holden is still working closely on the details in this fresh new supercar version of the Commodore. It's ready to take place in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship in 2018.

While it was almost sure to launch with the turbocharged V6 engine, it seems Holden isn't ready yet to give up their successful V8. The company has officially confirmed that their next generation of supercars will all house V8's for the 2018 season. The design is really impressive which includes an advanced simulation and aerodynamic evaluation system, thanks to Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling.

For 2019, Holden is planning on running a twin-turbo V6 for the series. According to a source, the engine is in development at the General Motors Performance and Racing Center and is said to be suited for the Gen 2 regulations. Reports claim it's able to be shared across various GM racing platforms and might be based on the 600-horsepower motor used in the Cadillac ATS-V race car.  More so, it's about up to par with the current V8.

Furthermore, Supercars CEO James Warburton said, "It's a pragmatic and sensible approach by Holden and Triple Eight Race Engineering in introducing the all new Commodore and a twin-turbocharged V6 powered engine to the sport."
