More tech giants are working on adding AI capabilities to their services and devices, and as anticipated, Apple is hopping on the trend. While the company is evidently lagging behind, it has been in talks with OpenAI to help power the upcoming chatbot for iPhones.

Apple Chatbot Powered by ChatGPT

iPhone users might find new AI features on their phones this year as Apple is gearing up to include a chatbot on its smartphones. OpenAI is reportedly discussing deals with Apple as ChatGPT is set to power the AI chatbot, which has been rumored for a while.

It has not been officially announced by Apple yet, but it is expected to be at the Worldwide Developers Conference, with the event about six weeks away from happening. There's a possibility that an AI chatbot might not be the only AI feature to be revealed as well.

Even with discussions rumored to take place, the company might add AI features that are created in-house for the iOS 18 update, as mentioned in Gizmodo, which could be the beginning of Apple's venture into the AI race.

In case you didn't notice, the iPhone maker hasn't exactly been progressing with its AI development, as far as we know. The company is said to be struggling with the creation of an AI product that can compete with the existing AI models right now.

The mentioned AI product is supposedly called Apple GPT. Apple users can expect more from the company in terms of AI capabilities, especially now that it has abandoned certain projects like the Apple Car to focus its attention on other developments like generative AI.

While an AI chatbot is a likely addition, it's still unclear which company would partner with Apple to make that happen given that the company is said to be in talks with both Google and OpenAI, which offer Gemini and ChatGPT, respectively.

By using established AI models from companies that have been developing them for some time, Apple can provide AI features sooner while working on an in-house AI model. Whichever company is chosen, it would be a great deal to partner with the tech giant.

Samsung is Ahead in the Race

Apple's greatest competitor in the market is obviously ahead in the AI race considering that it has already released a couple of AI features in March. Dubbed Galaxy AI, it comes with features that are already built into select Samsung Galaxy models.

Using the AI functions, users can encircle objects in an image and the AI would search for it on Google. The results can vary from what object it is, what brands offer that certain product, or where that image originated from.

Galaxy AI comes with Photo Assist, allowing users to polish photos by removing unwanted elements or moving subjects while the AI fills in the gaps and holes. There's also the Interpreter feature, which can be used even in real-time face-to-face conversations.

The live translation feature, on the other hand, can also be a significantly helpful tool. When one visits a foreign place and cannot speak the local language. It functions in calls and texts as well, and users can combine their devices with Buds for faster hands-free translations.
