HTC Butterfly S photos leak as June 19 launch nears

Rumors have been rife that HTC is gearing up to launch the HTC Butterfly S, believed to be the successor of the HTC Butterfly or Droid DNA, on June 19. Now photographs of the smartphone have surfaced online and suggest that the HTC Butterfly S will be the same size as its predecessor.

The leaked images are courtesy of Chinese website VR-Zone which spotted the photos of the HTC Butterfly S.

The photos, if legit, reveal that the HTC Butterfly S will stick to the design sensibilities adopted by its predecessor HTC Butterfly, which holds the distinction of being the first 5-inch 1080p smartphone offering from the Taiwan-based company. This means that it will tout a polycarbonate body unlike the aluminum unibody design sported by the flagship HTC One.

The photographs also reveal that the impending smartphone has taken a cue from the HTC One as three capacitive buttons have replaced the two button arrangement.

There is also a change in the placement of the speakers - instead of sporting one speaker on the rear, as was the case with the HTC Butterfly, the Butterfly S again takes a cue from HTC One's design and has two front-facing stereo speakers - i.e. BoomSound technology.

The Butterfly S is conjectured to tout a 5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels like the previous iteration. Previous rumors have suggested that the smartphone will only benefit from a few minor upgrades when compared to the HTC Butterfly/Droid DNA.

However, the HTC Butterfly S is expected to feature the UltraPixel camera, which was first seen on the HTC One. The Butterfly S is also speculated to get a bigger battery and. additional memory support via a microSD card slot. It will also likely feature BlinkFeed.

As for what's under the hood, rumors hint that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 could fuel the HTC smartphone

HTC Butterfly S is expected to be revealed at a press event on June 19, along with the entry-level HTC Desire 600.
