Truth Social App: 5 Safety and Security Tips Before You Sign Up on Donald Trump's Social Media

The Truth Social app, Donald Trump's social media platform, has finally launched!

The Truth Social app was pioneered by former President Donald Trump. The app has been hyped for months now, and users can now finally test it. The app is available for download on the Apple App Store.

After its launch, the app also ranked at the top of the app store's download charts as of Wednesday. To give you an idea how Trump's social media platform is like, the True social app greatly resembles Twitter.

Due to the fact that the app is still very new, users are advised to be extremely careful with sharing their personal data.

Here are five safety and security tips users can use to protect themselves.

1. Create a Strong Password

As recommended by Defending Digital, creating a strong password is one way for users to secure their accounts on the Truth Social app.

It is advised to create passwords that are complex and lengthy. Passwords should be created with a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

To keep track of passwords, it is also recommended that users create and store their passwords using a password manager, such as LastPass.

2. Modify Privacy Settings

Almost all social networking sites have privacy settings that are pre-configured or defaulted.

It is advised for users of the app to to change their privacy settings in order to prevent unnecessary data collection.

People frequently believe that their current settings are sufficient and do not make any effort to alter them in the future. However, it should be noted that privacy settings can be changed at any time. This, however, will depend on what social media app is being used.

As an example, on Facebook, the app allows the user to modify their settings so that only their friends, friends of friends, or specific groups can view the user's activity. The user can also opt to let no one view it at all.

3. Disable Location Sharing

Another safety recommendation for those who downloaded Truth Social is for users not to share their location.

It is advisable to not post anything about their travels until they have returned home. Users of the app are also encouraged to minimize the sharing of locations, destinations, and addresses to avoid possible harm.

4. Do Not Share Personal Information

According to Norton, just like any other social media apps in the market, the Truth social app gives users a platform to voice out almost anything a user wants. This could mean airing out thoughts, opinions, and even personal information.

In this type of social interaction, people who take pleasure in revealing too much personal information may find themselves in the position of being a convenient target for thieves and other criminals.

Due to the fact that these networks are visible to virtually everyone, a person should avoid disclosing information that could alert criminals to their whereabouts or other activities.

Truth social app users are advised to be careful in sharing personal information since it is not yet clear if the app collects and sells data from its users.

5. Exercise Privacy

Lastly, users should not expect to have complete control of privacy on the Truth Social app. Users should only expect only varying degrees of privacy on social media platforms rather than complete privacy.

Users are encouraged to think of their social media posts before making them public. This is because, in some instances, social media app companies collect data from their users.

When creating an account, do not provide any information that is not absolutely necessary.
