Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2: What You Have to Know About These New Noise-Canceling Headphones

After introducing the the Px7 noise-canceling headphones in 2019, Bowers & Wilkins has returned with a new version of the over-ear model. With the Px7 S2, Bowers & Wilkins has overhauled the Px7, from the design to the sound and the active noise cancellation (ANC) with the same $399 price tag.

Bowers & Wilkins Divulges New Features in Px7 S2

The new Px7 S2 features an all-new make that the British company says will keep things comfortable din longer listening sessions. It offers a slimmer shape and better cushioning in the earpads while decreasing the overall weight. This new Px7 S2 is also available in three new colors: grey, blue and black. Physical controls remain on the headphones, having buttons for power, volume, track controls and calls on the right side. A button on the left earcup allows convenient access to noise canceling settings or a voice assistant.

A new acoustic platform has also been developed to power 40mm drivers. Bowers & Wilkins said the speakers were made with "ultra-fast response" that can hit "every nuance" of the music being listened to. The drivers are also angled to maintain a "consistent distance" from your ear, resulting in a more natural soundstage. Bowers & Wilkins has also developed its own digital signal processing (DSP) that can carry 24-bit streaming from your music services, supporting aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC codecs.

In its ANC feature, the Px7 utilizes four microphones: two that estimate the driver output and two that checks ambient sound. The noise-canceling algorithm has also been altered for better performance. As for calls, the company has also altered both the microphone position and tweaked the digital signal processing to deal with noisy venues. ANC settings and transparency mode can also be enabled in the company's Music App for the first time on its headphones, along with the ability to adjust the equalizer as you see fit. Soon, the software will also allow users to stream music through an in-app player with as part of a forthcoming update.

According to Bowers & Wilkins, the Px7 S2 will last up to 30 hours on a charge, though the company did not specify if that's with ANC on or off. It however disclosed that it upgraded the headphones' quick-charge feature from the previous model, giving you seven hours of listening time in 15 minutes. That's two more hours than the previous model, in the same amount of charging time.

Px8 Headphones Teased, Px7 S2 Available Now

Bowers & Wilkins has likewise teased an upcoming flagship model, the Px8 headphones. The company said users can expect "reference-level" sound and "luxurious materials" for new $549 headphones later this year. The Px7 S2 is currently available on the Bowers & Wilkins website and select retailers. .
