There's a rise in the number of streaming services available to viewers. This means, you now have more options to choose from.

1. Netflix

At $10 a month for basic, the cost of Netflix subscription is in the middle of the TV service pack. This veteran in streaming service became a top-tier that's a must-have in 2022. It has originals like "Bridgerton" that grabbed the attention of millions of viewers. These originals also garner critical praise and awards. 

Despite losing a couple of major titles to other platforms, "the streamer still offers a wide variety of familiar network shows and more original series, films, documentaries and specials than any of its competitors," according to CNET.

Each week, new shows and movies arrive in Netflix. In 2021 alone, 70 new original movies arrived in the platform. Moreover, the streamer cater to the variety of tastes of viewers. Plus, it has gaming options and categories for kids. It has anime and foreign language titles from all over the world.

2. HBO Max

At $14.99 per month or $9.99 with ads, HBO Max is a close competitor to Netflix. The streamer has everything HBO has. You will find "Euphoria," as well as the completed seasons of "Sopranos," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Veep" in both HBO and HBO Max. You will also enjoy "Friends," the Studio Ghibli library and original shows like "Made for Love". 

HBO Max keeps on offering new and exciting projects, such as "Tokyo Vice," the "Tony Hawk" documentary and shows like "Barry and A Black Lady Sketch Show."

At $8 a month, Disney+ is one of the least expensive ad-free streaming choices. It is something that you must consider to have if you have kids.

Disney+ is another close competitor of Netflix. The streaming platform was launched in late 2019. Since then, it has garnered nearly 130 million subscribers. Disney+ is the only streaming platform where you can stream the vast majority of the Disney and Pixar movies. It's also the right place to watch "Star Wars" movie, Marvel films and new original TV shows, "National Geographic" content, and 31 seasons of "The Simpsons." 

According to CNET, "The Mandalorian" was its first breakout series, but other Marvel shows such "WandaVision" and "Loki" have since drawn millions of viewers. 

4. Hulu

And at $6.99 per month, Hulu is a lot cheaper than other streaming services. It's one of the most interesting options on this list. "While it doesn't deliver as many new originals as say Netflix, its quality to quantity ratio is better," according to Tom's Guide.  

Moreover, the streamer hosts "a number of original shows, a selection of offbeat movies and a surprising amount of classic anime series." You have to go through commercials even with a paid subscription, but it's a lot fewer than if you are watching on cable. 

5. Apple TV Plus

At $4.99 per month, you'll get good shows from Apple TV Plus. According to Tom's Guide, "Severance" is arguably the show of 2022, "The Afterparty" was a great surprise and there goes "CODA," which took home Oscars Best Picture. Apple TV Plus is serving up programming that continues to surprise viewers. 

You can also get "Schmigadoon!,"  "The Velvet Underground," "Beastie Boys Story" and "Mythic Quest." There's like literally something for everyone in Apple TV Plus.
