Netflix To Add ‘SpongeBob’ and ‘Narcos’ Mobile Games to Its Gaming Section

Netflix is bringing the people downloading its games to Bikini Bottom and 1990s Colombia.

The popular streaming platform was recently reported to be adding more mobile video games to its Gaming section, with two of those games becoming available before 2022 ends.

Netflix opened its Gaming section to its subscribers earlier in January, with the company adding two mobile games to its newly formed portfolio exclusively for Netflix subscribers.

Netflix Gaming Exclusive 'Spongebob,' 'Narcos' Mobile Games

Netflix announced in late September that it is teaming up with free-to-play games publisher Tilting Point to add more games to its portfolio.

According to Gamespot, two mobile games based on Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants" cartoon and Netflix's own crime drama television series "Narcos" has either arrived or are coming soon to Netflix Gaming in 2022, with a third, unnamed one on the way in 2023.

Let's start with the "Spongebob" based mobile game. SpongeBob: Get Cooking is a cooking game featuring gaming mechanics similar to early 2010 cooking flash games.

Players take the role of the absorbent, yellow, and porous sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, SpongeBob SquarePants, as he serves food in various areas of Bikini Bottom.

Just like the cooking flash games of the 2010s, players are tasked to complete customers' orders in a limited amount of time. Completing these orders quickly will reward players with money that can be used to customize their kitchen and its equipment, as well as SpongeBob himself.

The game's trailer reveals that the player can have Spongebob wear a chef's attire, a detective outfit, and his pajamas. It also revealed that other characters from the popular cartoon are also playable and customizable, such as Squidward and Patrick.

Finally, the game features a story exclusive to the game, which can be experienced like a visual novel.

Meanwhile, the mobile game based on Netflix's "Narcos" television series, Narcos: Cartel Wars Unlimited is a base-building strategy game that puts players in the shoes of a cartel kingpin, who must decide how they want to establish their power and reputation.

SpongeBob: Get Cooking! is already available to download on iOS and Android devices, while Narcos: Cartel Wars Unlimited is set for release sometime during fall 2022.

A third, unnamed Tilting Point game based on one of Netflix's hit series is scheduled for release sometime in 2023, though both companies have yet to disclose a specific release date for it.

How To Play Netflix Games

As with other Netflix games, a Netflix subscription is required to access Netflix Gaming and the company's portfolio of games to download them.

According to SpongeBob: Get Cooking!'s Netflix page, an active Netflix subscription, a compatible device, an internet connection to download and install the game, and sufficient storage is required to play it.

No additional charges are involved when downloading and playing any Netflix game.

To download and install a Netflix game, a Netflix subscriber should open their Netflix app and find the Netflix Games row. Tapping on the row will present a list of mobile games for the user to download. At this point tapping "Get Game" will cause the user's online app store to open, which gives the option of downloading it.

Successfully downloading the game will make it appear on the Netflix Games row and the user's home screen.
