Steve Jobs Death Anniversary: 5 Things You Probably Didn't Know About the Apple Founder

The road to immortalizing your name is not an easy one. It takes hard work and brilliance to be remembered fondly throughout the history and future of technology, but Steve Jobs did it. The tech genius co-founded Apple, a company that now holds a place at the top tier of the industry in technology.

Today marks the day of the death of the tech mogul. Despite that, he is still considered one of the faces of the tech giant, Apple. Many recognize his name for his contributions to the modern world, but people know so little about him more often than not. As a tribute, here are five facts that you might not know about Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs was a College Drop Out

Like Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs also dropped out of college. He attended Reed College, a private liberal arts college based in Portland, Oregon. Steve Jobs would definitely fit into the college since they hold high standards for creative thinking.

Unfortunately, Jobs had to drop out just six months after it became a strain on his family's finances. This could be due to the fact that his family comes from the working class, which means that it would be difficult for them to find an education in a prestigious college.

Funnily enough, a calligraphy class he took at college is what inspired the earliest typography you could've seen in Mac computers, as mentioned in Mental Floss.

The Tech Mogul Wasn't Always Tech Savvy

It might be surprising for a lot of people to know that initially, Steve Jobs knew very little about the technological aspect of it all. It can be at first glance for the founder of Apple to not know anything about coding or hardware, but it's important to know that a company operates from many angles.

Steve Jobs was more into the business aspect of Apple, which was just as important as building and programming the best device on the market. Without a mind for business strategies, a company's products will not take off and reach Apple's current stats no matter how innovative it is.

Steve Wozniak, one of Apple's other co-founders, even said that Jobs never designed anything as a hardware engineer and that he didn't know software. Wozniak also stated that business people were often the important ones, and since Jobs wanted to be important, that's what he did.

Jobs Also Contributed to Our Childhood

A great number of people have seen at least one Pixar film in their lifetime. Suffice it to say that iconic movies like Toy Story and Monsters Inc. would not exist without Steve Jobs. After stepping down from Apple in 1985, Jobs bought Graphics Group, which will later be changed into its more recognized name, Pixar.

The digital animation hardware was struggling when Steve Jobs decided to buy it for $5 million with his own money. It was certainly a great decision since the animation company would then make a major breakthrough with Toy Story, which grossed more than $350 million worldwide.

He sold then sold Pixar for $7 billion to the Walt Disney Company in 2006, which is yet another factoid in itself, since that deal is what made Jobs a billionaire, not Apple, according to iMore.

He Took His Mind to Greater Heights

Jobs spent seven months of his life traveling around India where he eventually adopted the practices of Zen Buddhism. It is also in the same country that he experimented on psychedelic drugs.

Some known personalities will deny consumption of any drug considering the stigma around it, but Steve Jobs said that experimenting with LSD was an important thing he has done in his life.

Stubborn but Consistent

Aside from Job's iconic black turtle neck, he also adored his car which was a silver Mercedes. Despite him driving it all the time, he somehow refused to put a license plate on it. Before you ask, yes, he shouldn't be able to do that, but how did he?

Since California's rules state that a new car needs to have a plate within six months after purchase, he just changed cars with the identical model before the six months were up.
