iPadOS 16.1 is Reportedly Launching at the End of October

Apple users might have to wait for a couple of days more for the iPadOS 16. Reportedly, the Cupertino-based company will release the new major update on iPadOS this October, as per MacRumors.

The information is based on the tweet of Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. According to Gurman, it is highly likely that iPadOS 16.1 will be released on the week of October 24.

Apple is Moving Straight to iPadOS 16.1, Skipping iPad OS 16

Apple delayed the release of iPadOS 16.1 to October in order to focus on the launch of its iPhone 14 model lineup, which happened last month during the company's Far Out event.

In August, Apple confirmed that it is delaying the roll out of iPadOS 16.1 to October. However, the company did not give a specific date when it would release the OS.

Apple rolled out iOS 16 to iPhone users when iPhone 14 was launched in September. But the iPadOS 16 was not release to users. This is because Apple is skipping iPadOS 16 and will move ahead to 16.1.

"This is an especially big year for iPadOS. This Fall, iPadOS will ship after iOS, as version 16.1 in a free software update," Apple said in a statement, as cited by TechCrunch.

In addition to the release date of the next iPadOS, Gurman also reveals that the OS is a stable version of the software. It can remove annoying bugs that are present in the beta counterpart.

According to 9to5Mac, users of the iPadOS 16.1 beta have complained about its instability issues. However, the latest update of the OS seems to fix all the problems.

Apple May Also Launch New Hardware This Month

According to MacRumors, the latest beta of iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 have the same build number. Thus, it is highly likely that the two OSes will be released at around the same time.

The iPadOS 16.1 works with the third-generation iPad Air and later, the fifth-generation iPad mini and later, and the fifth-generation iPad and later. In addition, the latest OS also works with all iPad Pro models.

According to Gurman, the release of iPadOS 16.1 is still "on track." It can be recalled that Apple rolled out iPadOS 16.1 to enrolled developer devices in August.

Besides the iPadOS 16.1 information, Gurman also notes that the release of the new OS could come along with a new hardware launch, as per 9to5Mac.

As Q4 2022 earning call of Apple approaches, it is expected that the tech company will also unveil new products on the same week just like what it had done in the past. The earning call is scheduled on October 27.

It can be recalled that the 2021 Macbook and the iPhone 12 were launched in October, just around with the earning call of Apple.

This month, two new iPad models are expected to be unveiled. The entry level 10th-generation iPad is said to get a new design, the A14 Bionic chip, 5G, and a USB-C port. The upgraded iPad Pro is also expected to get an M2 chip.

In addition, we might also see a new Mac mini plus an updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip this month.
