4K Version of Chromecast with Google TV Gets Android 12 Update

Google has started rolling out the Android 12 update to its Chromecast with Google TV 4K, which was released in 2020, according to 9to5Google.

This is the same operating system that the company rolled out with the HD-only version of the Chromecast with Google TV earlier this month.

Android 12 Update Brings a Number of Improvements

The latest Android 12 update for the Chromecast with Google TV 4K has a build number STTE.220621.019.A2.9082754, as per OnSiteGo. It is now available for download for 722MB.

The update improved the operating system of the Chromecast device from Android TV OS 10 to 12.

The update also brings an important security patch. The Chromecast with Google TV 4K is now running on the July 2022 security patch. This is a bump from the May 2022 security patch.

Android 12 brings a number of improvements to the 4K version of the Chromecast with Google TV.

One of the improvements is the additional privacy settings. It lets users grant or revoke permissions for the voice-enabled remote control and any cameras that might be attached to the TV.

Android 12 update allows users to control various HDR and surround sound settings. Depending on a viewer's preference, Chromecast with Google TV 4K now allows streamers to switch between HDR and SDR.

Meanwhile, depending on the TV or audio receiver the Chromecast with Google TV is plugged into, the device will automatically switch to a supported audio format. Users also have the option to simply press "Never" to turn off surround sound completely.

In addition, the update in the operating system lets users match the content frame rate of a TV show or movie streaming on a service.

For instance, when a user is watching fast-paced content, the frame rate will increase. Likewise, it will decrease in instances of watching a film that only has 24 frames per second. This feature depends if an app supports it.

Users can choose among the three options in the match content frame rate. You can choose "seamless" to adjust the frame rate seamlessly. This only works if a TV supports it.

Another option is the "non-seamless," which attempts to adjust the frame rate. Lastly is the "never." This option simply ignores the app's request in terms of frame rate.
