Apple to Cut Production of iPhone 14 Plus Less Than Two Weeks After Its Debut

Less than two weeks after its debut, iPhone 14 Plus appears to be losing steam after its manufacturer has reportedly asked suppliers to stop producing its components.

The Information said Apple told a manufacturer in China to halt production while the company is taking a second look at the demand side of the latest iPhone 14 series.

Writing on The Wall

Apple rolled out iPhone 14 Plus, a mid-range model, less than two weeks ago.

Early this year, the Cupertino tech company announced it would roll out the iPhone 14 lineup. Apparently, Apple had a change of plan. It released the iPhone 14 Plus instead.

While iPhone 14 Plus was not exactly a replacement for the iPhone 14 lineup, its release to the market was apparently an attempt to fill the gap in the company's 2022 iPhone lineup.

The iPhone Plus, which has a larger display, shares the same hardware and specs as iPhone 14.

The market for the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini was considerably small. Then, the writing on the wall is against the release of the Mini series. That is why Apple canceled the release of the iPhone Mini early this year.

With the timid sales of the iPhone 14 Plus, it is becoming evident it might suffer the same fate as the iPhone 13 Mini.

Consumer Interest

Apple saw a positive sales trend for the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. But the same consumer interest was not observed in the iPhone 14 Plus.

With the sluggish sales of the iPhone 14 Plus, the company is reportedly keen to continue the plan of launching the iPhone 15 Plus in 2023.

What's in iPhone 14 Plus?

At first, buying an iPhone 14 Plus is the most logical thing to do. The pricing alone makes sense because it is only $100 lower than the iPhone 14. In fact, the newly-released smartphone was the lowest-priced iPhone in the market.

The starting price of the iPhone 14 Plus was pegged at $899. It is comparably cheaper when compared to iPhone 14 Pro, which was pricey at $999. When it comes to battery life, the iPhone 14 Plus has the best battery of all the iPhone 14 models.

It is surprising to see the iPhone 14 Plus performed poorly in the market.

Apple Shares Tumble

Following a report that the company has asked its suppliers to halt the production of the component for iPhone 14 Plus, Apple shares have tumbled.

Yahoo Finance tweeted: $AAPL drops after a report the company is cutting down the production of its iPhone 14 Plus.

The company had positioned the iPhone 14 Plus as the cheaper alternative to the iPhone Pro Models. It did not sink in well with the public, Yahoo Finance said.

All signs seem to point in the direction of people preferring to upgrade to Pro models rather than spend on iPhone 14 Plus.
