Stephen King is a legendary storyteller. He has over 40 movies adapted from his work, excluding TV shows and miniseries. And he seems to keep going without any sign of slowing down.

The iconic writer is described as the "King of Horror." This title is a play on his surname and a reference to his special role as an iconic writer of horror, suspense, supernatural fiction, crime, fantasy, and science-fiction novels.

Many of King's novels and stories have been adapted into films, television series, miniseries, and comic books. If you are fan of his, here are five movies adapted from his novels that you can watch on Netflix.

1. 'In the Tall Grass'

"In the Tall Grass" is a 2019 film based on a 2012 novella of King and Joe Hill of the same name. The movie was directed by Vincenzo Natali. It stars Harrison Gilbertson, Avery Whitted, Laysla De Oliveira, Rachel Wilson, Will Buie Jr., and Patrick Wilson.

In the movie, siblings Becky and Cal venture into a field of tall grass when they hear the cries of a young boy lost within it, only to be lost in the field themselves, as per Netflix. Trapped in the field of tall grass, they soon discover that there may be no way out. They also realize that there might be something evil that lurks within.

2. 'Carrie'

"Carrie" is a 1976 supernatural horror film adapted from King's 1974 novel of the same name. The movie was directed by Brian De Palma, while the screenplay was written by Lawrence D. Cohen. The film features Sissy Spacek as Carrie White. She portrays the character of a shy 16-year-old girl who is consistently mocked and bullied at school. 

Carrie is sheltered by her domineering and religious mother. She grew up shy and friendless. After being humiliated by her classmates during their senior prom, she unleashes her telekinetic powers.

3. 'Doctor Sleep'

"Doctor Sleep" is a 2019 supernatural horror based on a 2013 novel by King of the same name. Mike Flanagan wrote and directed the film. It is a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining," a 1980 film. It stars Ewan McGregor as Danny Torrance.

In the movie, Danny, a man who has psychic abilities, struggles with his childhood trauma, as per IMDb. But he must protect a young girl having similar powers as himself from a cult called The True Knot. The cult preys on children who have psychic powers to stay immortal.

4. '1922'

"1922" is a 2017 horror drama film based on King's 2010 novella of the same name. Zak Hilditch wrote and directed the film. It stars Thomas Jane, Neal McDonough, and Molly Parker. The movie was released on Netflix on October 20, 2017.

The film follows the story of Wilfred and Arlette James and their teenage son, Henry. They move to a farm that Arlette inherits from her father. As farming is not for Arlette, she decided to sell it and move to the city. However, Wilfred wants to stay, and it leads him to kill his wife. His actions result in unintended consequences.

5. 'Mr. Harrigan's Phone'

"Mr. Harrigan's Phone" is a 2022 teen horror drama film based on King's novella of the same name. John Lee Hancock wrote and directed the film. It stars Donald Sutherland, Jaeden Martell, Joe Tippett, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. The movie was released by Netflix on October 5, 2022.

The movie follows Craig, a teen who befriended and did odd jobs Mr. Harrigan. When Mr. Harrigan dies, Craig puts his smartphone in his pocket. One day, Craig gets lonely and sends his dead friend a message. To his surprise and shock, he gets a return text.
