5 Horror Movies Based on Books That You Can Watch on Netflix

Halloween is just around the corner and if binge-watching horror movies is part of your October 31 tradition, well, Netflix has an abudance of horror movies and series you can watch. In fact, if you happen to be a fan of horror movies that are based on books, there are many you can choose from on Netflix.

Here are some examples:

'Bram Stoker's Dracula'

No list of horror movies based on books will ever be complete without "Bram Stoker's Dracula." Based on the 1897 novel by Bram Stoker, as its name suggests, the movie is directed by Francis Ford Coppola and released in 1992. The movie has won three Academy Awards.

Gary Oldman stars as Count Dracula himself. Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves, and Anthony Hopkins also star alongside Oldman.

'Doctor Sleep'

Stephen King is one of the most well-known horror novel writers and his work has been adapted into numerous films. One example is "Doctor Sleep," which was published in 2013.

The movie adaptation was released six years later and is actually the sequel to the Stanley Kubrick film "The Shining." Ewan McGregor plays the main character, Danny Torrance, who is the son of Jack and Wendy Torrance. Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, and more also star in the film.

'Hannibal'

"The Silence of the Lambs" is undoubtedly one of the best horror movies of all time and if you can't get enough of the story, you might want to watch its sequel, "Hannibal," which came out in 2001.

Based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Thomas Harris, "Hannibal" stars Anthony Hopkins, who reprises his role as the cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. Lecter is being pursued by his last surving victim and FBI special agent Clarice Sterling must get to him before this happens.

Julianne Moore and Gary Oldman also star in the movie, which you can watch on Netflix.

'It Chapter Two'

Another Stephen King novel that has been adapted into a movie is none other the 1986 novel "It." In fact, it has a two-part adaption: the first movie came out in 2017 and the sequel, "It Chapter Two," was released two years later.

Directed by Andy Muschietti, "It Chapter Two" focuses on the story of the second half of the novel and is set 27 years after the story of its prequel. It stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader, among others.

'No One Gets Out Alive'

Scary haunted houses are a staple of both horror novels and films, and one example that features a haunted house is none other the 2014 Adam Nevill novel "No One Gets Out Alive" and is movie adaptation, which was released in 2021.

The story of "No One Gets Out Alive" follows an undocumented Mexican woman who ends up moving into a boarding house in Cleveland. There, she begins to have supernatural encounters and she eventually tries to escape the boarding house.

Cristina Rodlo and Marc Menchanca star in the movie, which you can stream on Netflix.
