Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Gets a Radio Adaptation on BBC Radio

Sam Fisher will soon infiltrate radios instead of video games this December.

The BBC recently announced it is adapting one of James Swallow's hit novels, "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Firewall," into a radio drama for its Radio 4 radio station this December.

The series has been dormant in the video game industry since 2013's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which was the last Splinter Cell game before Ubisoft revealed it is remaking the first Splinter Cell game.

The BBC said in its announcement that the radio drama adapted from "Splinter Cell: Firewall" will be an eight-part series, with Sebastian Baczkiewicz and Paul Cornell dramatizing it for the audience.

The series is a joint commission between Alison Hindell, the Commissioning Editor for Radio 4 Drama, and Rhian Roberts, Commissioning Editor for Podcasts, Formats, and Digital, for Radio 4, 3, and 4 Extra.

The novel follows another exploit of veteran Fourth Echelon agent Sam Fisher in a mission to recruit and train the next generation of Splinter Cell operatives for the NSA's covert action division, per the Splinter Cell Wiki.

Unfortunately, a ghost from Fisher's past came back from the dead, hellbent on compromising the entire world through cyber warfare technology.

For this dramatization, Andonis Anthony, known for his role as Russ Jones in the podcast series "The Archers," will play Sam Fisher. Meanwhile, Fisher's daughter, Sarah, will be played by Daisy Head, a winner of the Best Debut Performance Award in the BBC Audio Drama Awards in 2019.

The Verge reports that Anthony and Head will be joined by Rosalie Craig, Sacha Dhawan, Nikesh Patel, and Will Poulter on his first performance in a radio drama.

Poulter is known for his roles as Gally in the 2018 movie "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" and Colin Ritman in "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch."

BBC Radio 4 recorded the eight-part radio drama series in binaural audio, meaning that audiences should feel like listening to an immersive surround sound experience when listening to it through a standard pair of headphones.

Poulter stated he hopes fans of the Splinter Cell games will enjoy the radio drama as it has the same level of action, tension, and excitement as the games.

"[The radio drama] is taking the best of Splinter Cell and building on that to make something really well-rounded," Poulter added.

Hindell also expressed their excitement for the radio drama, saying that BBC has a "great team" working together to bring "Splinter Cell: Firewall" to life for audio listeners and to the millions of fans of the Splinter Cell games.
