8 Facts About the Addams Family You Should Know

I'm sure you've heard about the recent release of "Wednesday" on Netflix. It has gained quite the buzz on social media, with praises about Jenna Ortega's performance as the titular character. You may have already binged watched it and want more content, so here are a couple of facts about the Addams family which you might not know yet.

1. A Techie Family

The Addams Family is such an old franchise that it started off as a single-panel cartoon in a newspaper, back in 1930. However, they were the first family on TV to ever have a home computer, as mentioned in MeTV. If you're thinking about bulky monitors and floppy discs, it's not. It's more like a whole bunch of buttons and levers, and it looks more like a control panel for an industrial conveyor belt.

2. Guest Stars

The Addams Family was made into an animated sitcom in 1973, but it's not really the first time they appeared on television as cartoons. Just a year before, they appeared in an episode of "The New Scooby-Doo Movies" called "Wednesday is Missing." For old-school cartoon fans, it's certainly a crossover to remember.

3. The Addams Family Comes from a Spanish Heritage

It hasn't been obvious that the Addams family is actually of Latino descent. In the starring John Astin, he showed his love for Morticia in the way that is seen in Latino lover tropes, as mentioned in Collider. On the most recent Addams family show revolving around Wednesday, Gomez is played by Luiz Guzmán, making the Latino heritage more apparent to the audience.

4. Obviously Not a Normal Family

Setting aside the fact that some of their practices can get a bit macabre, they are actually more unusual in more ways than one. For instance, they are impervious to electricity, fire, and poison. In the new Netflix Show, "Wednesday," the titular character show abilities like having visions upon contact with an object. In the franchise's other films, Morticia can create smoke from her body, just as Uncle Fester can create electricity.

5. Thing Also Became Two Things

Ted Cassidy was among the actors who played Lurch, the servant of the Addams family. Funny thing is, that wasn't his only role. He was also Thing, the famous hand lurking in the corners of the Addams estate, helping them out.

6. He Who Was Almost Named Repelli

Fans won't be able to imagine Gomez with a different name, but initially, he was to be named Repelli. The name was supposed to sound close to "repellant" which was how Gomez was described in terms of looks in the comics. Whether it's Repelli or Gomez, fans would've still loved him as much as he loved Morticia.

7. Walking Talking Hair

Those who have seen previous films or shows of the franchise might be familiar with "Cousin It." He is literally just hair, walking around, and uttering random sounds. If you think about it, he's kind of like a Wookiee. So far, it's still unknown if he's going to appear in Netflix's "Wednesday," but it would be cool to Wednesday talk to a huge clump of hair.

8. Wednesday Had a Favorite Toy

Wednesday Addams was a kid too, and of course, she had a favorite toy. Although, she wouldn't be an Addams if it wasn't something unusual. Her favorite toy was a headless doll. It wasn't always headless, but she and Pugsley decided to give the family guillotine a try. You already know how that one ended up.
