Google has announced in a tweet that the company is beginning the process of refunding customers for their Stadia hardware which were bought on the Google Store.

The tech giant is reportedly rolling back purchases for the Stadia controller and bundles that include Chromecast Ultra with the gamepad, as first announced in September.

Google Is Reimbursing Users For The Discontinued Cloud Gaming Service

On September 29, Google announced that Stadia servers would be shut down starting next year, which is why the company attempted to process refunds starting November 9.

These refunds include all purchases of games, add-on content, and subscription fees, according to Stadia Help, which the company will roll back the majority of on January 18.

However, this does not include the subscription fees players pay for the Stadia Pro or for the Stadia hardware bought from Best Buy, Engadget reports.

The company said that it will process the refunds automatically, but should that not happen, Google will email users through the Google account they used for their purchases.

The Verge writes that purchases of the Stadia controller, the Founder's Edition, the Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages are all eligible for refunds as well.

Google says that the refunds will be issued within the next two weeks, with UK and US users receiving a refund confirmation from Google Store today.

Additionally, the company provides a warning that there might be a problem with processing the refund for some users due to the time that has passed since they placed the order.

It is important to note that once the Stadia shuts down, customers can no longer play games on the cloud gaming service anymore, but Bethesda and CD Projekt Red are moving Stadia games to other platforms.

Although the shutdown of Stadia might have disappointed its community of loyal users, its fate seems to not be shocking at all as Google started reeling back on Stadia barely over a year after its launch.

Google Is Dealing With Refunding Issues Left And Right

9to5 Google says that due to the overwhelming amount of refunds the company has to process within the next two months, a declined Stadia refund issue has raised their concern.

This is in connection with some customers' expired credit cards or credit cards that are no longer with their previous banks, and some refunds that are simply marked as declined.

Because of this, Google immediately reached out to customers who were affected by the declined refunds with an email straight from Google support.

In addition to the declined refund woes, it can be remembered that only a week ago, a separate report by 9to5 Google details that Stadia Pro subscriptions are being reimbursed as well.

The tech giant has previously commented that the Stadia rollback will exclude the Pro version of the cloud gaming service, which is why the company believes that the refunds are just an error.

While the company was busy sending out reimbursements for the Stadia game, Stadia Pro users, mainly in the UK, were surprised that a handful of their money was being sent back to them.

However, since Google made it clear that the Stadia Pro is not eligible for a refund, players who got extra money were asked to return them.
