Shaggy Actor Plays the Villain in 'Five Nights at Freddy's' Movie

You might not know Matthew Lillard by name, but you probably know him as Shaggy from the "Scooby-Doo" movie back in 2002. He has been cast to be the antagonist for the new "Five Nights at Freddy's" (FNAF) movie.

About the Movie

Dawko, a known Five Nights at Freddy's streamer, announced the roles in the film in one of his streams. He revealed that Matthew Lillard will be playing William Afton, the founder of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and the main antagonist.

You might recognize the actor playing Mike Schmidt, the security guard, and the protagonist. He will be played by Josh Hutcherson, who you might know from "The Hunger Games" movie franchise, as he played Peeta Mellark.

It's an amazing turn of events seeing as Shaggy and the gang are the ones unmasking the person behind the monster. Now the actor playing Shaggy himself will be the monster he used to hunt, hiding behind a disguise.

Other roles actors that were revealed were Piper Rubio, who will play the protagonist's sister, and Mary Stuart Masterson, who will play a known Five Nights at Freddy's Character, "Unnamed Female Villain," as mentioned in PC Gamer.

A Little Backstory of the Game

Five Nights at Freddy's gained popularity back in 2014. Despite the simplicity of the gameplay, it provides terror and suspense for whoever plays it. Not only that, it is backed by story-rich lore, which great games usually have to intensify the gameplay.

The movie appears to focus more on the premise of the first game, wherein a security guard will keep watch of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a pizza place rumored to have haunted animatronics brought by the tragedies that happened within the place.

These mentioned tragedies were the kidnapping and murder of five children by the antagonist, William Afton. Rumor is that the victims' bodies were placed inside the mascots of the pizzeria, which are named Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.

The protagonist or the player will have to monitor these animatronic mascots through the security cameras, wherein he'll discover that the mascots are moving on their own. The player will have to take control of things like the power supply for the doors and lights so no one will reach them.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 goes more into detail about the macabre origin of the haunted mascots as it is a prequel. Although the game takes place in a different restaurant chain, the game still has the first game's main animatronics, but this time as backups.

When the player succeeds in surviving the game, the mascots will be decommissioned, paving the way for the original characters in the first game. The tragic murder of the five children will be told through various mini-games in an Atari-like format, as mentioned by Game Rant

The villain in those games is seen as a purple figure, which is why it earned the name "Purple Guy." Of course, we already know that "Purple Guy" is actually William Afton. However, it's still not known if the movie will include FNAF 2's narrative as well.
