Netflix Adapts Queer Series 'They Both Die At The End' With Bad Bunny As Executive Producer

Bad Bunny and Chris Van Dusen are teaming up to produce a Netflix series based on the first Latine and queer-led book to top the New York Times bestseller list for young adults.

It signals Van Dusen's return to Netflix, where he created the popular historical drama "Bridgerton," where he served as executive producer and showrunner for its first two seasons.

This Shows Bad Bunny's Support For The Diversity In The Arts

According to Deadline, Van Dusen and international music legend and current producer Benito Antonio Martnez Ocasio are collaborating to bring "They Both Die at the End" to the streaming platform.

Recently, Bad Bunny made the transition to the big screen, portraying the most intriguing character in Bullet Train.

Additionally, in his own stand-alone movie, El Muerto, Bad Bunny will be seen acting in the Spider-Man universe for Sony/Marvel.

It is important to note that through initiatives like this, the artist's artistic pursuits continue to develop, strengthening Ocasio's support for LGBTQIA+ representation in the arts.

After the success of Showtime's "Yellowjackets," Entertainment One, the project's studio, purchased the U.S. rights to Silvera's book in the spring of 2021 for Comins, a rising star in the YA premium market.

Van Dusen joined the team a year later, having decided to take on the "They Both Die at the End" novel as his next project after finishing his two-season stint on "Bridgerton."

It can be remembered that "They Both Die at the End" was previously being developed at HBO as a television series by Chris Kelly, co-creator of The Other Two, and JJ Abrams' Bad Robot.

According to Gizmodo, "They Both Die at the End," which is based on Adam Silvera's 2017 novel, is a story of an unlikely relationship under unusual circumstances.

Out of all things, what pulls the characters together is an app that forecasts when a person will pass away called "Last Friend."

The author excitedly shared the news that Mateo and Rufus are getting closer to being brought to life for television on Instagram.

Silvera then expressed gratitude to the production crew for including Bad Bunny, according to a report by Deadline.

It's crucial to note that their impending deaths are not being carried out intentionally before anyone decides to quote-tweet this article on how the book promotes the "bury your gays" trope.

Instead, these deaths and the broad acceptance of how they are carried out serve as a positive parable for maximizing one's quality of life.

According to Slash Film, there haven't been any more cast members revealed for the program, including conceivable Mateo and Rufus actors.

Furthermore, producers and showrunners have not disclosed yet if the limited series will have more than one season or will only last one.

A prequel to "They Both Die at the End," "The First To Die At the End," was released in October 2022, and immediately shot to the top of the NY Times Best Seller list, where it has remained for 13 weeks in a row.
